Bhutan is best known to the world today as the last Shangrila or paradise. This country is known as the Druk Yul or ‘Lord of the Thunder Dragon’ among the natives. There are snow-capped mountain peaks in the north of Bhutan.The mountains are as high as 7300m.

Jomsom - Muktinath Trek (Lower Gateway to Mustang) – 15 Days

This classic trek starts with a long climb to Ghorepani, and then drops into the world's deepest gorge and crosses the main Himalayan range to Tibet at Jomsom.  This trek boasts some spectacular mountain views following the Kali Gandaki River through the Thakali Villages of Tatopani, Kalopani, Marpha and Jomsom.  The Kali Gandaki Valley was a major trade route for centuries until 1959. The traders exchanged salt collected from salt lakes in Tibet for rice and barley from the Middle Hills of Nepal.  The Thakali people of the Kali Gandaki Valley had a monopoly on salt trade of this region.  They have now turned to agriculture, tourism and other form of trade for their livelihood.
