Trek is famous not only for its
proximity to Mt.
Everest (8,848 m), the world’s
highest mountain but also for the
green valleys with a wide variety of
culture, traditions, monasteries,
colourful festivals of friendly
Sherpas – a tribe of Himalayan
people. Rich vegetation and untamed
wild animals are another attraction
of the Sagarmatha National Park. In
Nepal, Mt. Everest is called ‘Sagarmatha’,
which literally means ‘the head
touching the sky’. In Tibet, Mt.
Everest is called ‘Chomolungma’. In
Tibetan language, ‘Chomolungma’
means ‘the mother goddess of the
earth’. |
